A mysterious Golden Icosahedron from (no one knows when)
I stumbled on an intricate, well crafted "dice" which is more of a small calculation machine.
These findings are all from this paper written by Paul Bien in 2000.
From the Article, this (dice?) is made of gold with a hinge that opens a small lid.
Besides the mystery of its makers and actual origins, the analysis showed that the numbers can be combined to generate an approximation of pi, the golden ratio, and the square root of 2, 3 and 5.
And it fits in a palm!
Very curious. Hopefully there is more work done to uncover its origins!
